What are eye bolt anchors?
Anchor eye bolts are designed for temporary or permanent anchorage in brickwork, concrete or stone. Also known as eye anchors, eye bolt shield anchors or eye bolts, eye bolt anchors feature the security of a shield anchor with the extra strength of a forged eye.
When to use anchor bolts?
Anchor bolts can be used for hundreds of applications, from securing cables and stays to fixing clothes lines, shade sails and even cable exercise equipment.

Eye bolt testing regulations.
According to the Work at Height Safety Association, when eye bolts are used for personal fall protection purposes, new anchors have to be tested, examined, marked and certified to BS EN 795: 2012. Installed eyebolts have to be in accordance with BS 7883: 2005. This includes periodic examination:
“Periodic examinations to be carried out at intervals of no more than 12 months for fall arrest devices and 6 months for rope access devices or if being used for raising and lowering a person. For anchor devices used infrequently, they may be used if they have been examined within the last 12 (6) months.”
Shield anchor bolt vs through bolt
Both shield anchors and through bolts are heavy to medium-duty expanding anchors. This means that these fixings use expansion forces to fix items into various types of concrete and masonry.
Shield anchors.
These types of anchor bolts are commonly known as Rawlbolts. When tightened, shield anchors distribute the expansion force across the length of the shield, forcing it to grip around the hole.
Through bolts.
Through bolts also have a tapered wedge and sleeve at the end of the thread. These types of expanding anchors are often used to fix items such as handrails and benches into concrete. When tightened, through bolt sleeves expand to grip the inside of concrete.

How to.
Step 1. Detach the anchor body and the eye bolt screw.
Step 2. Drill a hole the same size as the anchor body. Do not forget to choose a drill bit designed for the surface you are drilling on (i.e. concrete drills for concrete).
Step 3. Remove any dust or debris from the hole.
Step 3. Push the anchor in the hole.
Step 4. Insert the eye bolt screw into the anchor body and fasten it tightly.
Step 5. Attach your desired rope and/or cable to the eye bolt.
