Graeme’s Role at Speedy Fixings
Graeme joined Speedy Fixings 13 years ago and has since played an integral role within the team. His primary responsibility is in IT Support, although he defines his role as ‘driving technological growth, defining and supporting the business infrastructure, and assisting our team members.’ Graeme’s commitment and strong work ethic are evident in his daily contributions, and therefore he is highly valued within the company.
Passion for the Metal Fixings Industry
Graeme finds his role at Speedy Fixings particularly fulfilling due to the constant change and close interaction with customers. He explains, ‘We operate within an ever-changing environment with a constant influx of new and unique products. Our business is known for its flexibility and agility, serving customers both in-person at the counter and over the phone.’
While Graeme isn’t directly involved in crafting items like heavy-duty post shoes and joist hangars, he derives satisfaction from the significant responsibility and influence he wields within the company.
A Memorable Achievement
One achievement that stands out to Graeme is ‘the seamless transition of various systems, including websites, and more recently our ERP systems from Sage to Sharp-Ax.’ He values this accomplishment because it has provided the company with access to the latest cutting-edge technology and management software tailored to Speedy Fixings’ specific business needs.
Beyond Work
Outside of work, Graeme pursues a variety of different hobbies and interests. In addition to his enjoyment of activities like walking, singing in the community choir, and savouring authentic ale, Graeme also has two other intriguing hobbies.
He is an amateur radio enthusiast and has recently delved into palaeography, the art of deciphering ancient handwriting found in documents such as wills and court records. Some of these documents are written in Latin, others in Medieval English, and some are so challenging that even Graeme finds them perplexing. It’s evident that Graeme has a strong affinity for challenges.

The metal fixings industry can be as challenging as it is rewarding. For those looking to step into this dynamic world, Graeme shares this straightforward piece of advice, “Get to know the products and the processes and get to know the customers too, because they all have their differences”.
