The selection and spacing of wall ties depend on many factors. These include type of masonry to be tied, cavity width, type and height of building, location, and design life. Always check with designers if unsure.
Type 1, Heavy Duty – generally suitable for most building sizes and types of any height. Not very flexible and therefore not recommended where there is excessive movement between the leaves.
Type 2 & 3, General Purpose – generally suitable for domestic and small commercial buildings up to 15 metres high, on flat sites less than 150 metres above sea level and where the basic wind speed is less than 27 m/s
Type 4, Light Duty – generally suitable for domestic dwellings up to 10 metres high, on flat sites in towns and cities less than 150 metres above sea level and where the basic wind speed is less than 27 m/s
