Everything you need to know about packers

Packers, also known as shims, are plastic or metal spacers, designed to fill spaces and gaps between objects. They help to level out structural supports and add stability. Tradesmen are always coming up with new uses for packers, making them extremely versatile and useful.

Different types of packers.

There are several different types of packers that vary in shape and size. Here are some of the most popular types.

Square packers

Square packers are available in either steel square packers or plastic square packers. The Plastic Hi Load Square Packer is designed for high impact loads of up to 200Kn, as it won’t shatter or become deformed. The incorporated nesting feature prevents the shims from slipping under the load and the clip is designed to collapse into the body of the shim when the load is applied. They are made from high-strength polycarbonate and polyamide, making them an ideal cost-effective alternative to heavier steel packers.

Horseshoe packers

Steel horseshoe shims and plastic horseshoe packers are types of horseshoe packers, which are a great alternative to square packers. The horseshoe middle segment allowing it to fit over a bolt or fixing.

Rectangular packers

Rectangular packers, including plastic rectangular packers and steel rectangular shims have a similar purpose to horseshoe packers, but can cover more surface area due to their longer legs. These Rectangular adjustment packers are strong, light and easy to use, and are available in thicknesses of 1mm to 10mm
