Types of packers and shims
Shims, also known as packers, are spacers used to fill unwanted gaps as well as make slight adjustments to building elements, such as windows, door frames and more. By positioning and adjusting these elements, shims add stability and level surfaces.

By material.
Metal shims.
Steel shims or metal shims are suitable for aligning production and packaging equipment as these feature a high composite strength. Some metal shims, such as stainless steel shims, are corrosion resistant, being ideal for outdoor spaces.
Our metal shims are constructed of mild steel, pre-galvanised mild steel, spun galvanised mild steel and stainless steel. Our shims can be manufactured in grade 304-A2 stainless steel as well as grade A4-316 stainless steel.
Plastic shims.
Plastic shims are also available as plastic rectangular shims and plastic square shims. These are lighter than metal shims and will not rot, deform or rust. Plastic packers can be easily stacked to fill precise gaps and can be cut to the exact size needed. Both plastic shims and metal shims are durable and strong options, however, each material will be better suited for specific applications.
Hi-load shims.
In addition to these shims, we also supply hi-load packers, such as plastic hi-load square packers 70mm x 70mm x 5mm. These are made from polycarbonate and polyamide (nylons), which are stronger than regular polypropylene and polystyrene. Hi-load packers are designed to withstand high-impact loads up to 200Kn without breaking or deforming.
By shape.
Square shims.
Our square-shaped shims are available in various materials, from steel square shims to plastic square shims. These can be used for various applications. Some of our best-selling square shims include Stainless steel square packer 100mm x 100mm x 1mm, Pre-galvanised mild steel square packer 100mm x 100mm x 1mm and mild steel square packer 50mm x 50mm x 1mm.
Horseshoe shims.
These shims feature a horseshoe-shaped design and are great shimming solutions for levelling windows and door frames as well as ceiling batons and joinery packing. Some popular horseshoe shims include Pre-galvanised Rectangular Horseshoe Packer M12 100mm x 50mm x 1mm.
Rectangular shims.
These shims feature a rectangular shape. We stock both steel rectangular shims and plastic rectangular shims in a variety of sizes, from Spun-Galvanised Rectangular Horseshoe Packers to Precision Wedge Shims pack of 50.
