When to use galvanised post shoes
Galvanised post shoes are a type of post shoe that is hot dipped galvanised. These are fully welded post shoes that are galvanised to a minimum of 70 microns after manufacture. This process will protect mild steel against corrosion in a UK environment for between 40-70 years.
What are post shoes?
Post shoes, also referred to as post supports, post base or fence post shoes, wrap around the base of wooden posts for extra stability and support. By covering the base of posts, these offer protection against moisture, fungal damage and insect damage.

Galvanised post shoes have a long life expectancy of between 40 to 70 years, depending on the environment. The galvanised coating is a tough coating that has high scratch endurance and exceptional resistance to mechanical damage through storing, handling and transporting.
Galvanised steel can also withstand water exposure but only limited saltwater exposure. Stainless steel post shoes are best suited for environments near the coast. Heavy duty galvanised post shoes
A heavy duty galvanised post shoe is suited to support large structures, such as decking, gazebos and pergolas. These are larger and thicker than lightweight post shoes.
Heavy Duty Galvanised Post Shoe Type 4 100mm x 100mm only
This post shoe has a 5mm shoe wall thickness, a height of 10mm and it features a base size of 200mm x 200mm x 5mm. It will require four M12 concrete anchors to be fixed.
Heavy Duty Galvanised Post Shoe Type 4a 100mm x 100mm only
This post shoe features a more narrow design with a base size of 200mm x 100mm x 5mm. It also has a 5mm shoe wall thickness and 100mm height.
Heavy Duty Galvanised Post Shoe Type 4b 100mm x 100mm only
This post shoe will only require 2 M12 concrete anchors to be fixed due to its small base of 150mm x 100mm x 5mm. This post shoe weighs 2kg, being far superior to lightweight post bases.
Lightweight galvanised post shoes
This bolt down post shoe offers a quick and easy way to erect fencing and garden timber posts. These post shoes do not require any digging or concreting to be fixed into place. It features a base size of 180mm x 180mm x 3mm and will require four M10 concrete anchors to be installed. It will firmly hold posts in place to prevent movement and are supplied in a painted finish.
