Threaded rods: an in-depth guide
Also referred to as allthread, stud and studding, threaded rods are metal rods that are threaded from end to end. Threaded rods are designed to be used in tension fastening applications. These work effectively as a pin to connect two materials together and can also be used to create steady bases to stabilise structures.

Can threaded rods be cut?
Yes, threaded rod can be cut to your required size. At Speedy Fixings, we supply threaded rods that vary in size, material and finish. Our threaded rod can be cut in-house to specific sizes in lengths up to 3 metres. If you need studs that are longer than 3 metres, we also supply rod connectors.
Is threaded rod high tensile?
Not all threaded rods are high tensile. Some high tensile threaded rods include zinc plated 8.8 high tensile threaded rods and galvanised 8.8 high tensile threaded rods. These are suitable for heavy-duty applications as these can withstand a large amount of strain.
Can threaded rod be used in concrete?
Yes, threaded rods can be inserted into concrete or masonry and this is particularly useful when the base material is soft or unstable. We also supply the resin to secure the Threaded Rod.

How to remove stuck threaded rods?
When fastened into metal or wood, threaded rods can be removed by following these steps:
- Apply oil where the threaded rod is inserted to facilitate removal.
- Insert two nuts next to each other to the threaded rod. Strongly fasten one of the nuts towards on side and the other to the opposite side.
- With an adjustable spanner, grab the middle of these nuts and turn them.
- This should, subsequently, turn the threaded rod out of the hole.
Can you use threaded rod as rebar?
Threaded rods are sometimes used as dowels in concrete, however, they are not a direct replacement for rebar. Rebar, short for reinforcing bar, is used in construction to reinforce concrete and masonry.
